A Rondel Poetry Exercise

September Sky

I painted a September sky
In hues of pewter gray and blue;
A mere reflection of a sigh
That only lovers can construe.

A deep sea stretches between us,
One that long deep kisses can’t bridge.
Our winds are strong and boisterous,
Punishing love with cruel ravage.

Grave September knows no mercy,
Its bitter clouds knitted tightly.
Waters boil and foam in love’s sea.
Soon memories will become treacly.

If I paint the sky September gold,
Will we remember sultry nights,
And whispered sighs on thighs, so bold
All part of erotic delights?
We still have October to mold.
