October's Fallen Leaf

I saw the first leaf of autumn fall today.
It didn't drift slowly down to the ground,
as I dreamt it would this year.
Instead the olive leaf dappled with orange spun wildly,
out of control in its mad dash to the earth.
So like life, so like this year...
And the beauty of it all was that I saw it
and for once, didn't flinch at the reminder
that some things are beyond my control.
